Glenda's chocolate balls have been a talking point at many of the tea gatherings after her Yin Yoga or Divine Feminine events and she's kindly agreed to share her recipe for this super healthy guilt free treat for all occasions and all ages! Enjoy ...

3 cups of pitted dates soaked in warm water for 30 minutes, then drained
7 tbs raw organic cacao powder

1 tsp pure vanilla (not imitation)
3 tbs orange peel grated or finely chopped
Desiccated coconut

Process dates, cacao powder, almond meal and vanilla in a food processor until well blended.

Teacher Profile - Jackie Engelmann

My emphasis is on alignment and safety. My aim is to ensure my students get the most out of every class they attend. For me, part of the joy of teaching is being creative with my sequences and making every class interesting with plenty of variety. I believe my classes are well balanced with breath work, asanas, meditation and relaxation.

Experiencing some upset in my personal life this year has encouraged me to reflect on the important things in life. I am grateful to live in a beautiful city in this amazing country with the biggest blue sky. Appreciate your friends and loved ones and treat everyone with love and respect.

Jackie is one of the founding members of the Mosman Yoga Co-op and has been teaching yoga for over 10 years. She currently teaches in a number of studios in the Lower North Shore as well as providing corporate and private classes.

Introduction to Yin Yoga

This Sunday, Glenda is offering the first of her new, 'Introduction to Yin Yoga' classes. Ideal for students with no prior Yin Yoga experience or those whose joints need a little extra care and support.

The practice of Yin Yoga provides a much needed balance to our active (yang oriented) lives and maturing bodies. It encourages a quiet, deep felt connection to 'being' and unlocks flexibility in your connective tissues and joints.

During this 2.5 hr class, postures are held for 3 to 5 minutes (not the usual 3 to 5 breaths) initially utilising props for support then gradually reducing or removing them to allow a deeper stretch. This restorative style of yin practice ensures a gentle transition into the postures. It also promotes patience, quiet introspection and our capacity to 'observe' without reacting.

Please join me to explore a new way to feel light, graceful and at ease in your body.

When: Sunday, 4th March Time: 2.30 to 5pm Cost: $35
Where
: Mosman Yoga Co-op Studio, Cnr Best Ave & Suakin Dr. Georges Heights

Bookings are required ...

Recipe of the week....

Jackie's Bliss Balls...

Our fabulous teacher Jackie has been making her own bliss/protein balls which are a great snack, delicious and healthy. They also make a yummy alternative to the processed treats kids often crave, and with no cooking required they can join in the fun of making these too.

Have a go at her recipe below....

1/4 cup Cashew nuts
1/4 cup Brazil nuts
1/4 cup Pecan nuts
1/4 cup Hazelnuts
1/4 cup Almonds
1 Tbspn Pumpkins Seeds
1 Tbspn Sunflower Seeds
2 Tbsp Shredded Coconut
2 Tbsps LSA mix
5 Dates
2 Tbspn of Tahini
2 Tbspn of Rice Syrup
Sesame Seeds

In a hand blender (a small style food processor or a regular blender would work too) blend all nuts and coconut until fine. Cut dates and remove stones, add to blender with Tahini and Rice syrup and blend again.
Form balls and roll in sesame seeds or shredded coconut to finish.

(You can be creative and use any combination of nuts you fancy!)

Will make approx 12 balls.

Wishing you Happy Healthy Snacking from Jackie and The Mosman Yoga Co-op!

Yin Reflections

Sunday was the first of the current series of Yin Yoga workshops lead by Glenda Ford. Yin Yoga is a more receptive, gentle style of Yoga that nourishes the feminine aspect within each one of us. As a teacher myself, it is always a blessing to be guided into stillness, rather than being the director. The afternoon was a truly wonderful and gentle healing experience that focused on balancing, aligning and releasing tension from not only the muscles, but to unlock hidden natural flexibility in the connective tissues and joints.

Our intention was to 'awaken' our minds, bodies, souls and tap into the stillness within. This stillness is found by surrendering into the breath, observing ourselves in the present moment, and connecting with the gentle feminine (Yin) principle, allowing a completely receptive and self nurturing experience.

For some of you new to Yoga or yet to try this workshop, two and a half hours may seem daunting, yet we all concluded that time seemed to disappear and much too soon the peaceful sounds of singing bowls brought us to the end. I left feeling light, graceful, and completely connected. And after an amazing sleep that night I am still feeling the healing effects.

Glenda's next Yin Yoga experience is on October 8. Time: 2.30 to 5pm, Cost: $30

stillness ... and the gentle art of stretching deeply

During these 2½ hr sessions, postures are held for 3 to 5 minutes (not the usual 3 to 5 breaths) initially utilising yoga props for support then gradually reducing or removing them to allow a deeper stretch.
